Preserve the past, enrich the present, and plan for the future. To serve as a means of communication and collaboration for residents. To preserve and enrich the quality of life in Underwood. To perform outreach, community events, and fundraisers.



Underwood Parks and Recreation District #1 (UPRD) is a Skamania County Parks and
Recreation District staffed with five community elected commissioners through the Official
Washington State Election Process. The UPRD commissioners are responsible for managing and maintaining the Underwood Community Properties under the Revised Code of Washington Park and Recreational facilities. The UPRD’s primary functions include renting the community center facilities,
overseeing the upkeep of park grounds, managing recreational facilities such as, sports
fields, playgrounds, ball courts, and the gym, as well as the Post Office building and the
small house at the corner of Schoolhouse Road and Cook Underwood Road.

Friends of Underwood (FOU) is a newly established 501(c)3 Community Committee
composed of 100% Underwood Volunteers, and operates under the By-Laws established by
the FOU board. The board consists of 5 positions defined in the FOU by-laws as:

As a 501(c)3, FOU serves as the fundraising arm for the community. The FOU also serves
as the liaison between the community and the UPRD promoting community
communications and engagement, as well as promoting volunteer activities including but
not limited to:
* Supporting the initiatives of the UPRD, including special projects currently aimed to
update the playground, improve the outdoor tennis/pickleball, and basketball courts.
* Community and park beautification * Events aimed to bring community members and their families together for social
events to connect, share, and enjoy our wonderful gorge community.

FOU is always searching for willing volunteers to help support Underwood Community initiatives.
How to Connect
UPRD and FOU websites will provide a central community communication hub.
Both organizations have regular monthly meetings at the community center generally
following this schedule.
* FOU – 1st Wednesday of the month starting at 6PM
* UPRD – 2nd Wednesday of the month starting at 6PM

A community e-mail list has been created to disseminate community information. In
addition, the UPRD send periodic newsletters to all Underwood residents via USPS.
